The Suitcase Junket

This solo project came from a desire to do it all. I wanted to be my own rhythm section, I wanted to supply my own solos, and I wanted to present something with an aesthetic continuity. I learned how to whistle from my grandpa, taught myself guitar as a teenager, and "discovered" throat-singing (having never heard it before) while driving in my car one summer. I spent several years practicing before integrating it into my music and it continues to be a constant pursuit. I started pursuing the foot-drumming a couple of years ago and while I am happy with how far I have come, there is still far to go.

I found strength in my voice while regularly performing in the streets of Western Europe for about 8 months. This was after studying music composition, performance and instrument design at Hampshire College.

My main influences for songwriting are Tom Waits, Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, The Talking Heads, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Bessie Smith, The Kinks, and others.
