The Surs is a headstrong band from the Netherlands. Their Music: alternative, expressive, intense and dynamic. Be prepared for an overwhelming experience! A perfect balance between experimentation and accessibility. Controlled chaos, non-conventional song structures, strong rhythm sections, crazy and sometimes psychedelic guitar eruptions.
The Surs’ music is hard to be described. It is too easy to just call it postpunk, the music is too diverse for that. Obviously the influences of Joy Division and early Nick Cave are to be recognized, but also Captain Beefheart, David Bowie, Sonic Youth and dEUS join in the mix. But the influences are never on too thick and that is a big achievement of this young band. The Surs’ songs are no hit material but extremely suitable for people who want more than that. The content and lyrics are central - a song will take as long as the lyric. In this time that is daring and that speaks for these guys from ’s-Hertogenbosch. Controlled chaos, no ordinary song structures, a strong rhythm section, crazy and sometimes even psychedelic guitar eruptions, eccentric vocals… And still just very strong songs.
