Awards.
Danish World Awards. ”Welcome To The Worldclub” were among the top five
contenders for ”Djembeprisen”, which is awarded by the readers of Djembé -
magazine.
Important dates:
May 2006 First German appearance: Nordischer Klang, Greifswald. Guest
appearance by Cuban rapper Yarien Oviedo
October 2005 - November 2005. Famed danish percussionists Jacob Andersen and Ethan Weisgard
makes guest appearances at Jazzklub Dexter and Lyngby Kulturhus. Lili
Hernandez handles all lead vocals for the first time. New lineup with
Carsten Kær (Piano), Niels Liechtenberg (Bass), Simon Thorsen
(Saxophone).
April – may 2005 First tour under the new name ”The Suwalski Worldclub”. Spring tour
with concerts all over Denmark and guest appearance by Bob Rockwell
on saxophone. Piano player and vocalist Rikke Schelde subsequently
leaves the group.
November 2004 The band publishes its first public release on Cope Records. At the
Danish World Awards ”Welcome To The Worldclub” enters
immediately among the top five contenders for ”Djembeprisen”, which is
awarded by the readers of Djembé -magazine.
March 2004 Concert at Nova Festival, Copenhagen.
February 2004 Intense workschedule: National tour with 9 concerts, 3 workshops
followed by 2 days of recording at Sun Studio International. The concert
at Copenhagen Jazzhouse is broadcast by DR (Danish national Radio)
Ernesto Manuitt (formerly with cuban supergroup Klimax) joins the band.
Calixtos wife, Lili Hernandez step in as backing vocalist.
August 2003 Cuban drumming superstar Calixto Oviedo makes his first appearance
with the band. The collaboration is succesfull, and he soon becomes a
regular member of the band.
March 2003 Trombone player Carlos Perez joins the band.
August 2002 Guitarplayer Peter Lund and trumpeter Hendrik Jørgensen joins the
band.
January 2002 ”Latin Jazz & Songs” Self published demo cd is released.
December 2001 Recordings at ”Noa Studio” Copenhagen.
April 2001 Recordings at ”Fugt Studio” Copenhagen.
Fall 2000 Tour with appearances at Unicorn Jazzclub and in Sweden.
April 2000 First international tour: Concerts all over Denmark plus concerts in
Helsingborg and Karlskrona, Sweden. In the day time the group performs
schoolconcerts arranged by LMS. (Levende Musik i Skolen)
1999 Various concerts all over Denmark.
May 1998 ”Ice Cream Vendors” First self titled and self published demo CD is
released.
March 1998 Tivoli Jazzhouse, Copenhagen. The concert is broadcast by DR (Danish
national Radio)
August 1997. First public appearance at ”Den Blå Ged” in Fårevejle.
May 1997 First demo recording at Media Sound Studio.
February 1997 First gig: Private arrangement in Copenhagen. The line up is Bjørn
Ringkjøbing (trpt), Rikke Schelde (pno, vcl), Anders Blomqvist (bass),
Michael Axen (drums), Peter Suwalski (perc).
Summer 1996 Percussionist Peter Suwalski leads the summer jamsessions at ”Bar Ben
Bar” at Amager beach. Subsequently he forms ”The Ice Cream
Vendors” by fusing the succesful jamband with his current project ”The
Peanut Vendors”.
