The Tablets

The Tablets are a Pop/Garage/Electronic band from Brooklyn, New York. It is the newest project of Liz Godoy (also half of the fearsome sparrow, best new band 2009 nominee by the Deli magazine).

Double Denim Records says: "This one from The Tablets drips with a hazy sound reminiscent of 'Young Liars'-era TV On The Radio. Blown-out toy drums tick with lo-fi abandon alongside fuzzed out bass and withdrawn organ while singer Liz recalls Nico with her deadpan delivery and slightly strange enunciation. Honeyed pop melodies hold things together into a nice gooey mess" (of the track 'Tablets')
Deli magazine's favorite song from their profile is "I Love You in Your Tragic Beauty" (The Tablets rendition of a composition by The Legendary Pink Dots), that sounds like some kind of hybrid of The Pentangle and Vivian Girls.

In early 2010 Liz Godoy began writing a series of songs that are solely hers. The tracks in her online released 5 song EP The Tablets, are more than the sum of it's parts. Upon listening, you can clearly hear the influences of the GoGo's, and some of her favorite childhood mexican girl-pop dance tunes perfectly balanced with gritty shoe-gaze guitars and distorted Farfisa, that if not for her sweet understated vocals, could sound like an early Jesus and Mary Chain song. And yet Godoy's songwriting is more than that. As you will hear in the slow-tempo, obscure and heart-breaking Armistice; she's determined to keep writing without prejudice, hoping to be categorized more as a composer than just a style, very much like Harry Nilsson (of whom she says "he just wrote and wrote"), and Juan Gabriel (one of Mexico's most prominent composers). She will soon finish recording The Tablets' first full-length album, with songs that will show us a much broader range in her repertoire.

While a resident of Southern California, Liz played keys and sang background vocals with the short-lived experimental noise band Tetsunori, who pressed an EP mixed by Jimmy LaValle (of The Album Leaf, Tristeza and The Locust) and shared the stage with acts like The Blackheart Procession.

Later she co-founded the Glass Bead Game with fellow musicians Elisa Ferrari and Brenden Beu, who shared the stage with The Locust and The Album Leaf. After Ferrari's departure, they became the two-piece band The Fearsome Sparrow, releasing their first full-length, Idiot Savants

The Fearsome Sparrow moved to Brooklyn in the summer of 2005 and enjoyed moderate success. Their second full length album, Shimmer was greatly received, and led them to be nominated by the Deli Magazine in their list of the best new bands of 2009 along with acts such as Talk Normal, Sleigh Bells and The Dirty Projectors. They have also played shows alongside the Suckers and Kaiser Cartel.

Liz studied piano and ballet In Tijuana and Culiacan, Mexico at a very young age, and her dance studies eventually took her to Cuba. Upon returning to Mexico and dancing for a few more years, she retired from the dancing world and decided to pick-up where she left off with music.

Both EP and full-lenght albums are produced by Brenden Beu who has worked on the production of albums by Male Bonding, Pissed Jeans and o'death.
