Bio

“The production is meticulous and well thought out, the sounds got creative spunk, it’s super smooth, elegant and refined, grounded, in a jazzy, rock, pop feel.”

“…the future of [the Kingston] music scene.”

-CBC Radio 3

The Tangible Ears are a Kingston based progressive indie band dedicated to smooth chord changes and innovative songwriting. Forming in late 2006, The Tangible Ears released their debut EP "Hear the Ear" in May 2007. The bands’ original effort was a duo consisting of Julian Flavin and Nigel Ward. The song writing process began and Evan Mullen, Max Benninger, David Farnell and Angus Benderavage joined the band on bass, drums, alto saxophone and trumpet respectively. Over the course of late 2006 early 2007 the band set out to gig as much as possible in order to expose the area to their original music. "Hear the Ear" received critical acclaim along with airplay on CBC’s Fresh Air and CFRC radio. The Tangible Ears quickly became a prominent act on the Kingston music scene.

This local success inspired the band to write a new, full length album to be called “Whims”. Due to distance between band members, the recording process was strenuous. Regardless, the band refused to lose sight of their goals. With transcendent effort, through slogs of science tests, flight exams, Berklee auditions, indigo shifts, hand renderings, and hockey games, Whims was finally completed in early March 2008. The CD marks a significant milestone for the band. Now playing to sold out audiences with Ottawa’s Souljazz Orchestra, and releasing their second original project, the Tangible Ears bring with them a crowd of loyal fans. The Tangible Ears have proven their dedication to the Canadian music scene, and will remain on the forefront of original music for years to come.
