The Thirst

The Thirst

 London, England, GBR
BandAlternativeRock

With a reputation as one of London’s best live bands, able to transverse subcultures and genres, they’ve already toured with Pete Doherty, The Rolling Stones and The Sex Pistols, opened up for The Libertines and shared stages with grime stalwarts like Kano and Wiley.

Biography

Regulars on the club circuit, brothers Mensah (vocals/ guitar) and Kwame Hart (bass), Mark Lenihan (guitar) and Marcus Harris (drums/ backing vocals) represent a previously unheard voice of south London, where more often than not, the art of MCing rules the speakerbox. Influenced by ska, hip-hop, indie, and all that goes in-between, they’re especially inspired by Prince and Jimi Hendrix, embodying the fiery tones of those who refuse to be labelled and will destroy any box you try and put them in. They describe their sound as 'Electric Groove' a mix of Rock, Funk and Soulful elements.

Championed by muso’s from NME, RWD, The Guardian and MTV Base, It’s nearly three years since their critically acclaimed debut, On The Brink, was released on Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood’s, Wooden Records. Sadly, with the label becoming defunct soon after, an amicable split left the band with some valuable lessons learnt.

But it was a series of events in 2009 that gave the group more determination to up the ante; as well as been stranded in Chile for nearly two weeks during the earthquake having been in the country to play at a Rolling Stones tribute gig, The Thirst also made the front page of The Times when they were wrongly arrested at gunpoint after a performance. Consequently, the police invited the band to have their DNA destroyed from the police database, an event that was covered by news channels nationwide.

Lyrics

MY EVERYTHING

Written By: THE THIRST

Open-toed sandals on her feet
She's such a pretty creature
Every man would love to meet her
But something they would never think
Her bloodstream's overrun by certain cells that
Would love to see her dead

Doctor's got no explanationm, got nothing to say
Positive certification takes her breath away
With the fear of isolation she puts it away
Wishes it were a dream and it will all be okay
But in this would so idealistic we live in today
She'll end up a statistic with nothing to say
Happy ending, no, she missed it, along way away

She walks a lonely, lonely road
But she's everything to me
And you're everything to me
Yea, my everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)

Her mother thinks she's losing weight
She's down to a size 8
She's got no sense of being
No purpose, nothing to believe in
A hundred phone calls from her mates
(Mostly the kids from her estate)
And they just wanna know how she is 'cause

She rides the bus with a baiters, no money to pay
Found a friend in a crack pipe, losing her way
Mum and daddy tried to show her that isn't the way
When all they say is, "It will all be okay"

Now lost her beautiful complexion, faded away
Boyfriend showed her no affection till up to this day
All because of no protection this happened today

She walks a lonely, lonely road
But she's everything to me
And you're everything to me
Yea, my everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)
Everything (you are mine)

You are my
You are my
You are my
You are my

You ride the bus with a baiters, no money to pay
You found a friend in a crack pipe, losing your way
But you are mine
And you are mine
You walk a lonely, lonely road
But you're everything to me, to me
