Formed in the Summer of 2011 in Ottawa, Ontario. The Thirteenth Floor quickly started to grab the attention of the local heavy music scene. Within the next few years, they have played alongside current forerunners of the genre such as, Everytime I Die, Thy Art is Murder, Northlane, Texas in July, 36 Crazyfists, , Glass Cloud, This or the Apocalypse, King Conquer, Sleepwave, Sworn In, as well as Canadian groups like Structures, Intervals, Beheading of a King, and The Afterimage to name a few.
Having many musical influences from very different genres. Their sound is unique but is compared to many bands. One show goer enthusiastically said this:"Groovy, heavy as all hell and some really nice chordy melodic bits that makes it a unique sounding experience. Think of Meshuggah, Ion Dissonance, Gojira, Periphery and Whitechapel and many others having a baby together. The baby is a beast, with somewhat of a soft side and he packs a mean punch."
The band's style is defined by the use of dissonant and low tuned guitars by JR Harold, heavy hitting technical drums by JaeKwon Park and the unique vocal range to the genre by Stephan Lear. Emphasizing the use of low tuned guitars, with a groovy element to it.
The band mainly focused on writing and practicing not only their music, but their ability to flourish in a live setting. Focusing heavily on a captivating live performance as well as professionalism on and off stage.
