THE THUJONES

BandEDMSinger/Songwriter

Portishead Meets Jefferson Airplane!

Biography

Blending an intoxicating, genre bending combination of guitar, live programming & scratching with the powerful and provocative lyrics of vocalist Laura, The Thujone’s unique sound & energetic live performances have helped them gain a well earned reputation as one of the southwest’s hottest unsigned acts.

It all began summer 2005 when ex bass player, Brendan Harris, introduced Joe and Laura at a well-known South West music festival.
The threesome gigged together for a year whilst awaiting the return of prodigal 4th member, Jack a.k.a. DJJD (Jam the Channel/Squeeze) before bursting onto Exeter’s music scene with the phat and phunky sounds that dominate the band’s repertoire.
Brendan’s departure summer 2008 cleared the way for the arrival of “Sharkey” Mark, on the bass, just in time for his debut performance at 2008 Aeon festival where the Thujone’s stole the show with another stomping Sunday night set!

Further changes to the line up came in February 2009 when Sharkey left to go travelling. Not tempted by the prospect of searching for yet another bass player, the band invested in a new Laptop and Abelton Live Suite and the Thujones new sound was born! Fusing Breaks, house, trip hop and more, the band have begun to turn heads wherever they go.

Supporting the likes of Mercury prize winners, Obedient Bone, Southwest hip Hop Collective The Breaks and breaks DJ Oddisi & Jim Davies’ (The Prodigy) new outfit Sex and Circuitry, the Thujone’s name has become synonymous with original sound, great live performance and good fun!
