Artist: THETHYRDAY
Album: The Perfection Xperiment 2
Label: Street Flava Entertainment
Reviewer: Jeremy Cole

Rating: 4.25/5

Hailing out of the North Carolina area, THETHYRDAY (pronounced the-thûrd-day) aims at making their own unique mark on Hip-Hop music with their latest album, “The Perfection Xperiment 2”. Group members Killa K, J. Gunn, and K. Slack combine to create music that is both solid sonically, as well as fundamentally well-written. Throw well-known producers into the mix and “The Perfection Xperiment 2” is conjured up.

The album begins with a devastating Khrysis-produced introduction entitled “PX2”. Each of the group members trade bars, giving a re-introduction to the group for listeners who have heard them before, and a formal introduction who haven’t. The introduction continues on with “Fantastic’, a Nicolay produced cut. From a production stand-point, the backdrop is on-par with Nicolay’s Foreign Exchange work. However, what’s equally as impressive as the production is the ability of THETHYRDAY to create quality music and hold their own.

Justus League member 9th Wonder produces four songs on “The Perfection Xperiment”, beginning with “Getaway”, which features the sultry vocals of Courtney. Borrowing from Chic’s “Open Up”, 9th Wonder puts his own spin on things while THETHRYDAY rhymes about courtship. 9th’s touch can also be found on “Warning Shot”, the Michael Jackson influenced “Good Music”, and “Memories”. K. Slack seems to be the group’s bread and butter on the boards, producing five cuts on the album. K. Slack certainly is gaining more recognition in his own right as a quality producer.

Khrysis handles my favorite song on “The Perfection Xperiment 2”, in “The Rutherford Affair.” Joe Scudda slips and slides between verses, under the moniker of the fictitious Carlton Rutherford. “Cycle” is another one of my favorite Khrysis-produced cuts. J. Gunn pays homage to Hip-Hop legends while simultaneously releasing frustration with Hip-Hop music when he states “These busters mumblin’ the same, rubbage and nothing has changed, so Gunn still fuckin’ with Kane”.

Overall, “The Perfection Xperiment 2” certainly is a step on the road to perfection. Each group member offers a unique perspective in their music and hopefully, it will continue to widen with their next release. They have put together a concrete product that will certainly make the Hip-Hop crowd smile whether you’re 15 or 51.
