The Tijuana Sun capped off 2011 in emphatic style, by kicking off Aberdeen's Hogmanay celebrations in front of thousands of booze fuelled Scots. The band were invited to play at the AECC's 'Granite Rocks' event in their hometown which saw them share the bill with Scottish chart toppers The View, Twin Atlantic and White Lies.
Having been catapulted into the limelight in 2010 through an 'unofficial' 3 track demo, recorded & produced at Chamber Studios, Edinburgh (former home of Snow Patrol, Idlewild, The Vaselines), Mark Ferguson (vocals), Kris Harris (lead guitar), Gregg Bannister (rhythm guitar), John Brown (bass) and Paul Barclay (drums) have left no stone unturned whilst capitalising on their recent successes.
They have received airplay on Radio 1's 'BBC Introducing' and local stations including live acoustic sets.
An offer from Creation Records founder & Oasis svengali Alan McGee to play @ Brixton Jamm in early 2011, after impressing him at a gig in Aberdeen earlier in the year, was to be the start of an exciting 2011. High profile support slots up and down the country continued throughout the year, with Shaun William Ryder, Gomez, Proud Mary, Starsailor, Kassidy & Funeral Party, placing The Tijuana Sun on the tips of a thousand tongues.
Before the year was out, debut EP 'Smell the Flowers & Smile' was released exclusively on iTunes to much critical acclaim, demonstrating their songwriting capabilities destined for bigger things.
Having already topped the bill at Aberdeen's prestigious Beach Ballroom venue on three occasions (whom in the past have played host to The Beatles & Pink Floyd) they have cemented themselves as firm favourites in their local and surrounding cities
Sharing influences from Oasis, The Black Keys, Paul Weller, The Black Crowes to Neil Young & Kasabian, they combine inspired gritty vocals, blues soaked indie melodies, sing-along anthems to produce sweat inducing, wild and electric shows that make you want to dance, sing, kiss your partner and hug your best mate, making The Sun not a band to miss.
Still in the beginnings of 2012, local & national interest have reached an (to this point) all time high.
