"Get Bent (The Tongue and Lips)"

Getting lots of advance releases and downloads in your inbox might sound awesome, but sometimes it’s way too easy to get jaded and bored. Nothing will ever beat going to see a band live that you have no knowledge or preconception of, then proceeding to stand there dumbstruck as said band melts your face off. This is exactly what happened to me over the weekend when I saw Cincinnati garage rockers the Tongue and Lips for the first time. With a tight rhythm section that veers from jazzy explorations to Sabbath-style crushing heaviness, reverbed-out guitars, and a vocalist that sounds like Captain Beefheart on meth, the Tongue and Lips are one of the best new bands I’ve heard in forever. Check out “On the Run”, a track from their debut LP that should be out later this year, and if they come to your town, drop everything and go see them play. - Get Bent Contributor Zach Braun

Debut LP out in the Spring of 2012

The Tongue and Lips are a Pop Psych group from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Formed in the Spring of 2011 when the remaining members of Cincinnati garage band SEX OFFENDER (Jeremy Hutslar, Michael Cipollone, and Clayton Rooks) moved their studio to Northside, Ohio and enlisted Cincinnati music scene veteran Erin Procter on organ and bass. Procter’s past projects included The Fairmont Girls, Eat Sugar, and Leopard Messiah. The addition of Procter gave the group a dynamic and robust sound that immediately draws comparison to the 60’s garage scene with gritty vocals, haunting organ, psych twang, and freak-beat drumming from the strong rhythm section.

The Tongue and Lips paired up with Alive Naturalsound’s Brian Olive at Diamond Studios in Northside, Ohio to begin work on their debut album. The album was recorded and produced by Olive using analog equipment, with Olive contributing his saxophone on the albums, “On the Run”.
The Tongue and Lips debut LP will be out in the Spring of 2012.
