Powerful, emotionally charged melodies with crystal clear, razor sharp vocals, The Trophy Life manages to pierce the heart and the ear drums with their full-bodied musical compositions. It seems somewhat unbelievable that five lighthearted, unpretentious, nice boys can secrete such potent, tearstained, affected songs full of depth and desperation. They seem to pull from an endless well of hopeless despondency somewhere hidden beneath their pleasant facades. But a mellow tune does not translate to a languid performance in their case. Overwhelmingly proficient in one key ingredient to band success, stage presence, The Trophy Life command unwavering attention throughout their animated set. Their charm washes over the audience like a tidal wave, gluing the eyes of fans to the stage. I challenge you to not be taken with these guys, whether by their boyish charm, their sultry melodies, or their onstage musical competence. Their sound can most likely be categorized in the emotional rock, post-punk genre. They exhibit traces of progressive emo icons Dashboard Confessional and Coheed and Cambria, especially in terms of vocals, but claim to be influenced by a range of genres from classic rock to metal. - sdmusicmatters.com
