2013 was a great year for The Turks, Finishing in the finals of Indie Week Canada (out of 400 bands), Headlining the Opera House during Canadian Music Week, headlining Canada's Wonderland, winning the Supernova Showdown at The Sound Academy. Hailing from the city of Vaughan, pop rock group The Turks are among the most sought after bands in the Toronto independent music scene. They have won both acclaim and competitions, headlined legendary venues such as the Sound Academy, the El Mocambo, and the Opera House, and performed sell out shows at the Horseshoe Tavern, the Hideout and the Mod Club. The Turks have rapidly become one of the most anticipated bands in Toronto music, and have become the darlings of the University music Scene
The band was formed in 2008 when 13 year old singer-songwriter, guitarist Julian Muia formed a band with musical partner song-writer, lead guitarist Daniel Konikoff. The two began writing and performing together under the name "The Turks" and shortly afterwards Daniel's childhood friend Ryan Levine joined on bass guitar. The latest edition to the group is drummer Vincent Lecce.
Today as 19 year old University students they have experienced a rapid success. They have an undying passion for music, and plan to make music their chosen profession. Julian and Daniel's songwriting partnership has been acclaimed by industry experts. They also have loyal fanbase called "Turkies".
With the group's current EP "Familiar Faces" features the band's popular brand of pop rock. Julian's singing is complimented with the bands raw but polished music. The outcome is a highly original brand of music that sounds both old and new.
