"The Twisted Melons Live at Barfly"

Some bands are easily defined by genres but others - such as The Twisted Melons - are hard to label. Prog rock, pop and metal are just a few of the influences in the Johnson brothers' music.

From Mull but now based in Glasgow, the trio got off to a lively start with Backstabber, with drum dynamo Mark's frenetic playing working well under frontman Paul's effect-heavy guitar. Panic stood out thanks to an infectious chorus, its strong melody and off-kilter rhythm giving it a freshness.

The 10-minute epic Ghandi brought the show to a confused yet compelling end as numerous style changes both enthralled and bewildered. - Scottish Sunday Mail

"The Twisted Melons live at The Wise Monkey, Glasgow"

I like bands named after fruit as they can count towards one of your five a day and therefore can save you from having to eat anything that grows on trees. The first thing that struck me about this band was just how polished they were. So much so that a name change to Mr Sheen would be justified and that same quality of musicianship had me thinking that they might even be Americans on tour. Tight sibling harmonies and big choruses reinforced that opinion leading to the conclusion that college radio in the good old USA would surely adopt them. - Bluesbunny Independent Music Reviews

"Exposure - The Twisted Melons"

The Twisted Melons are three brothers from Kintyre whose musical path veers somewhere between the frenetic pace and monster riffage of Biffy Clyro and the kind of stadium rock choruses the Foo Fighters have been knocking out for the past decade, creating a sound that is remarkably spacious and frankly, huge, considering it's just the three of them. - The List (scotland)

Comprised of the three Johnson brothers who grew up near the remote Mull of Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland, the band have a diversity that takes in a wide range of reference points including Faith No More, grunge, The Flaming Lips, Manic Street Preachers, Funkadelic, Radiohead, The Who, Julian Cope, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, Television, Primal Scream, Hendrix, Jane's Addiction, David Bowie, The Beach Boys, Friendly Fires and Acid Mothers Temple.

A true live act with over 400 live shows under their belts and an almost telepathic sibling musical understanding, The Twisted Melons are a band that is best experienced live at close quarters.

With an improvisational ability that reminds of the great rock and fusion groups of the past combined with a modern pop sensibility, the band's motto is Be More Awesome.
