ABOUT THE BAND

“The Uncle Bill Roach Band” was first put together by Mike Slagle in 1976. The band is named after Slagle’s great uncle, Bill Roach, who attended yearly hootenannies at their home in Monkstown, Texas. All the members are proud to be native Texans and all are from generations of deep rooted family musical backgrounds.

The band has developed throughout the years. They may have some new members, but continue playing the same fun loving music that keeps fans tapping their toes and coming back to hear them again and again. They play Texas original music, country, bluegrass, classic rock, tropical, and a lot of FUN stuff!
I guess its Banjo Rockin’ Country Texas Style with an Americana Twist,

The band proudly won 1st place show this year at Larry Joe Taylor’s 16th Annual Texas Music Festival & Chili cook-off held in Stephenville, Texas. Almost 20,000 people attended. They were the 1st place winners last year and the year before,and the 2nd place winners in 2002 when the festival was still held in Meridian, TX.

BIOS

Mike Slagle plays banjo, keyboard, accordion, guitar and vocals. He is a singer songwriter. His newest CD is titled “TEXAS WEATHER”. He said, “Wait a minute while listening to my CD and the music will change to a different style, Just like Texas weather does.”

Mike was in the theater Rocky Mountain Review, in Durango, Colorado from 1975-76. In 1976 he started up the Uncle Bill Roach Band with a friend from the theater, but went on to play with Fire on the Mountain from 1976-78. Then he toured with Sage Brush from 1978-82. In 1982 Mike got the Uncle Bill Roach Band together, playing banjo and piano with Mark Fishback on bass, Mike Hines on guitar, and Walter Craig on drums. Wes Harris joined later on. Mike Slagle has played music with the Gatlin Brothers and Tina Mandrell, Ernest Tubbs and opened for David Allen Cole, Tommy Alverson, and Steve Fromholtz. He sounds like Charlie Daniels and Jimmy Buffet fused together.

He lives on Lake Granbury with his wife Christina. Mike was also a carpenter. He built their 3 story home with a scenic view of Lake Granbury. He is also a fisherman extraordinaire. He wrote a song “Mazatlan” about the sailfish hanging on his wall.
He has worked for Home Depot for over 18 years, at Contractor Sales and as a flooring estimator and specialist. They have 7 children, the oldest was born in 1978 and the youngest was born in 1990. And they are proud to have 2 grandchildren.

Dave Goodwin sings harmony vocals, plays fiddle, mandolin, and electric guitar. He played on the “Texas Weather” CD. Dave has played music with Mike Slagle for over 9 years and is just like part of the family. He attends the family hootenannies at Thanksgiving each year.
He is living in the country, in Midlothian, TX. He commutes to work in Las Colinus everyday, and has worked for the same company over 30years in the customer service department. He enjoys watching sports on TV, taking digital pictures and
E-mailing. He tells stories about his rattlesnake hunting adventures.

Jerry Howeth plays drums for the band He has played drums for the Lost Camels and toured with Clint Black. Jerry and his wife, Thuy (Tweetie), have 2 boys, and a girl.
They live in Fort Worth. He is an Insurance salesman. He enjoys golf and plays Darts very well. Jerry played on the newest CD.

Eric Tull is an Amazing Fiddle player that adds so much energy to the band...his music sounds like Charlie Daniels ...very upbeat and a Blast to watch jumping around on Stage. He has played music since he was 4 years old. He has played on the Grand Ol Opry and toured with the Best. He has Beat cancer and has had 38 surgery's and he is
only 35 years old. He is an inspiration to all !
Eric has a beautiful wife named Star and 2 girls and a boy. They reside in Tolar, Texas.
