The Uncommitted are musical alchemists, changing hearts, minds and machines into music of the times. The band brings together elements of Brazilian groove, Eno-ambience, Laswell-funk and free improvisations to make fresh sounds for the soul. The quest for feel, groove and fire drive this group to continually break new ground and make new sound. Each member of the band brings their own unique history to bear on the music. Jazz drummer Blake Howard has spent years digging into the musical traditions of Brazil, Indonesia and Mali. He is a vetran of Toronto avante-jazz band Guh! and is currently lighting a fire in the rhythm section of Rock Plaza Central. Classically and jazz trained keyboardist Jason Kenemy has spent intense time studying percussion in northern India and southern Brazil. He has toured Canada and the UK the jazz/house/funk band Directions and plays with Dave Clark’s Woodchopper’s Association. Visual artist Frank Perna, with his low-fi, homegrown sampling and looping platform makes crystalline music from sounds found in the band and in the world at large. Together, the Uncommitted are a band apart making fresh, new music and bringing it to the world. Additional flavour at Uncommitted’s shows comes from photographer/projectionist Derek Stryland and the unique visuals he brings with him.
