Bio

The idea of creating a pop rock band belongs to Olga Chernova. Olga (vocals, guitar) wrote a couple of songs and became obsessed with a dream of arranging and playing them with like-minded musicians. Being determined and devoted to music she started searching for musicians in February 2007. By April Oleg Rudnev (rhythm and solo guitar), Vladimir Ponikarovskiy (drummer) and Kirill Prosandeyev (bass player) joined Olga.

Since June 2007 The Upstairs have played a dozen of concerts in Kharkiv clubs (Churchillï¿½s music pub, Agata, Fort). A song with an ethnic touch ï¿½Heart danceï¿½ was performed along with a tribal-fussion dancer on the concert dedicated to the bandï¿½s birthday. In July 2008 they took part in Ukrainian music festival ï¿½Pyat ozyorï¿½ along with such outstanding Ukrainian bands as Lyuk and Chayka. They received a great review in a local newspaper ï¿½Noviy denï¿½.

In August 2008 bass player Kirill was replaced by Ivan Selyodkin and drummer Vladimir was replaced by Andrey Panasyuk. After those replacements rhythm section became more professional.

Since October 2008 songs ï¿½Sorryï¿½ and ï¿½Just looking backï¿½ have got into radio rotation of ï¿½Novaya Volnaï¿½ and M fm (Kharkiv radio stations).

The Upstairs are being told their music reminds people of Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos and The Cardigans, some songs remind of Avril Lavigne, others ï¿½ of Natalie Imbruglia, Natalie Merchant, Lisa Loeb.

April 25th 2009 The Upstairs presented their first album in Kharkiv at ï¿½Pintagonï¿½ and went for a tour in April-June 2009.
