"A (Funky) Deli Video Premiere"

Christine Tambakis might be the Rick James of soul-funk dance parties. Backed by the Party Down Boys (a criminally raging octet of loud horns, rowdy rhythms, and dangerously chic clothing choices), her band The Uptown Party Down will bring your inner freak up to the surface, shake it around on the dance floor, and leave you wondering why you haven't seen this band live before. Going to an Uptown Party Down show is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and with a new album coming out later this year, now's the perfect time to get out there and get weird. Check out sexy new video 'She' below, starring Crystal Demure from 'Kinky Boots.' - Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets) - Deli Magazine

"Talent Buyer, Club Groove/ Cafe Wha?"

The Uptown Party Down always bring a good vibe into our club. They keep the energy high, are very musically solid, and have a great attitude. I always know that they'll keep our regular customers happy while bringing their own fans as well. Great band, great vibe, great time! - Hap Pardo

"Party On with the Party Down"

"What do you get when you mix a dash of funk, a spoon full of soul, fresh jazz, an array of instruments, and eight strapping fellows? This mixture would give you New York City’s Uptown Party Down.

UTPD brings a unique flair to jazz by using the inspirations of Michael Jackson and Prince, which undoubtedly adds the element of pop and dance. With funky rhythms, bouncy bass and horn lines, and energetic vocals the ensemble takes the chaos of jazz and turns it into one matchless sound. Having tracks that resembles that of James Brown, The Meters, and the Turkuaz, UTPD has everything that would inspire their audiences to throw down some funky dance moves.

They started playing sold out shows at the Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, Sullivan Hall, Highline Ballroom, and created a following within months of their first live show in February 2011.

…they will be releasing their new album on May 18th, which was recorded at Galaxy Smith Studios in Brooklyn, where DMC and The London Souls have also recorded. “It's a fantastic secret gem that people are just starting to become aware of. We are really looking forward to it.” said Hayes.

Join them on Friday May 18th at the Rockwood Music Hall where Uptown Party Down will be hosting a release party. They are also playing at Stella Blues in New Haven on May 30th, and Spike Hill in Brooklyn on June 30th." - Charged.Fm

Bio

The Uptown Party Down is an explosive 8-piece funk band based out of New York City. The group is led by Christine Tambakis, whose soulful, sultry voice has become a mainstay in the CT and NY music scenes. Backing Tambakis are the often-costumed Party Down boys-- a masterful rhythm section and horn trio who churn out their own unique brand of aggressively energetic grooves. Blending catchy hooks, infectious beats and unpredictable improvisation, UPD 'has everything that would inspire its audience to throw down funky dance moves.'   (-charged.fm )

In 2013, the Uptown Party Down hosted a year-long weekend residency at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, dubbed the The Midnight Dance Party. The first night kicked off with a full blown break-dancing competition-- a Saturday night typical of the band.

Like a friendly frat party wrapped in a mini-skirt, the UPD bulldoze through their live show with serious energy, and an enthusiasm for audience participation and extensive improv. Tambakis leads the crowd in raucous sing-a-longs and hammers away at the tambourine while drawing the audience in with her soaring voice and uplifting dialogue.
