High energy melodic dance rock. The Urgency is here to move you.

Biography

The Urgency was formed in the winter of 2005, but its roots go back much deeper than that. Founding members Ian Molla and Kevin Coffrin grew up in Vermont and have been writing and playing together in various bands spanning as far back as 1997. Both were accepted into the prestigious jazz program at Ithaca college in 2001 to better their understanding of music and their instruments. Here is where the duo met fellow jazz performance major Guerin Blask, and each member honed and built upon their jazz and classical theory knowledge. Outside of classes, the group packed local venues playing rock music as the band Fuller, and later on Triloquist. Over the years, vocalists came and went, including Ian's own stint as lead singer.

Upon graduating, the threesome moved out to Brooklyn, New York to pursue a career in rock music. The trio, though highly talented, lacked an essential element they felt was key to the success of their music. That element was found in the vocal stylings of Tyler Gurwicz. Only eighteen years old, Tyler was enrolled as a musical theatre major at nearby Wagner College on Staten Island when he was discovered by the group. Tyler, a fellow Vermonter, had been singing in bands throughout high school, most notably in The Graves and later on, Virga. After the break-up of Virga, Tyler decided to follow his other passion: musical theatre. However, after only one short semester at school, Tyler left.

Incredibly unhappy at school, and instantly recognizing the band's undeniable potential, Tyler leapt at the chance to play rock and roll once again, and hasn't looked back yet.

This current manifestation of Kevin and Ian's aspirations is proving to be the most groundbreaking yet, as each member contributes their own unique style to the whole. As eclectic as each of the members' influences may be, the band's desire to create raw, heart-pounding melodic rock unifies them seamlessly, and their chemistry is undeniable.

Lyrics

Stop!

Written By: Tyler Gurwicz

Hey you
YEAH YOU!
Is it true?
Were your best days in school?
When you had no responsibility?

Now its time to step up
Time to step up at bat
Yet you fear that you lack the ability

I'm slowin down my words for you
These past few songs I've spoke far too loosely
Slowin down my mouth for you
I promise I'll deliver smoothly:

Don't you worry,
I'm sure they'll love you
Don't get scared now -
- And they'll love you.

Just be honest!
Flash a smile!
Show some leg dear!
Show some spine!

Stop! Why wont you let it go?
It hurts to see you so!
Assuming that you know -
Assuming that you know
That you've been giving us false hope baby,
So stop assuming that I don't.

So it's true!
Your best days were in school,
Where you had no accountability.

Now it's time to step up
Time to step up at bat
Yet you fear that you lack the resiliency

Don't you worry,
I'm sure they'll love you
Don't get scared now -
- And they'll love you.

Just be honest!
Flash a smile!
Show some leg dear!
Show some spine!

Stop! Why won't you let it go?
It hurts to see you so!
Assuming that you know -
Assuming that you know
That you've been giving us false hope baby
So stop assuming that I don't.

Stop! Why won't you let it go?
It hurts to see you so!
Assuming that you know -
Assuming that you know
That you've been feeding us false information,
So stop assuming that I don't.

So I let it go
Let it all dissolve around me
This picture perfect world we painted

Stop! Why wont you let it go?
It hurts to see you so!
Assuming that you know -
Assuming that you know
That you've been giving us false hope baby
So stop assuming that I don't.

Stop! Why wont you let it go?
It hurts to see you so!
Assuming that you know -
Assuming that you know
That you've been feeding us false information,
So stop assuming that I don't.

Fingertips

Written By: Tyler Gurwicz

Turns out your love was in your head
And never in your fickle heart
While mine was in your hands
Wrapped around your fingertips

Turns out you are yours alone
It's just perspective truth be told
I can almost taste it now
It's slipping through your fingertips

She's got coca leaves for eyes
And knives between her teeth
She's got coca leaves
And a smile like the sunset
It's bleeding into me

Honey won't you let me help you get your facts straight
Cause I'm doing time for a crime I did not commit
Surely you believe I'm not the man I know I am
Why else would this be over now?

& Why are you waiting in the crowd?

You're so proud

Alright

Turns out your love was in your head
And never in your fickle heart
While mine was in your hands
But now it's slipping through your fingertips

She's got coca leaves for eyes
And knives between her teeth
She's got coca leaves
And a smile like the sunset
It's bleeding into me

Honey won't you let me help you get your facts straight
Cause I'm doing time for a crime I did not commit
Surely you believe I'm not the man I know I am
Why else would this be over now?
Honey won't you let me help you get your facts straight
Cause I'm doing time for a crime I did not commit
Surely you believe I'm not the man I know I am
Why else would this be over now?

& Why are you waiting in the crowd?

You're so proud

Honey won't you let me let you let go

Honey won't you let me help you get your facts straight
Cause I'm doing time for a crime I did not commit
Surely you believe that I am not the man I think I am!
Why else would this be over?
Honey won't you let me help you get your facts straight
Cause I'm doing time for a crime I did not commit
Surely you believe that I am not the man I know I am!
Why else would this be over now?

Lullaby

Written By: Tyler Gurwicz

She left me on your birthday
But all I could think of was you
So then I fled far from that place
Thinking it's too good to be true
It was

Already the sound of your footsteps
Picking up snow in your driveway
Is making my heart pound
I'm seeing sideways, I'm missing you

A white chalk outline surrounds me
A death aura left over from the night I should have died
It's a shame he didn't cut me when he well had the chance
Cause this subway home is a lonely ride

My heart is bleeding
My soul is teething ready to break away
From this new life
A newborn ready to die

Allow the expound of my hindsight
Cause Doc's making rounds
And it's not looking too bright
Just let me sleep, know I am fine
Knowing you love me

A white chalk outline surrounds me
A death aura left over from the night I should have died
It's a shame he didn't cut me when he well had the chance
Cause this subway home is a lonely ride

My heart is bleeding
My soul is teething ready to break away
From this new life
A newborn ready to die

Already the sounds of your footsteps
Making their way up into my room
It's making my heart pound
I'm so glad to see you, Baby Doll.
