Bio

We are The Vertigos, a 5 piece Indie/Alternative/Electro band from St. Albans. 3 of us met at a very young age at primary school and started an acoustic band in 2007. At the time, we were creating bad knock offs of Jack Penate/The View, when drunk and without a left arm! Needless to say though, we have always had a good understanding of a good melody and we'd like to think that even in some of the early abominations, there were some saving graces that were to come through in the later years of the band when we grasped the basics of song writing! After various name changes and the addition of our drummer and lead guitarist, we settled as The Vertigos.

We played many shows within our home town of St. Albans and our music began to really improve with heavy practising and gigging. In this time we released 2 EPs with a very positive reaction. A big turning point came in 2009 when due to our influences developing- in particular our singer- we added synths. A whole new realm of possibilities came about and we really began to experiment with our music. As time has passed we have really learnt how to manipulate the synths within our music, to create music were proud of and hopefully will connect with people too.

And so, we really consider the beginning of the band to be 2008-09, when exciting possibilities came for us. Since 2009, we have progressed to now play the London circuit, where we regularly play at some of the best venues in London as well as those closer to home. These venues include the O2 Academy in Islington, Camden Barfly, Monto Water Rats, Proud Galleries and the Hatfield Forum as well as live sessions on BBC Introducing. As a band, our musical influences have developed so much. Not only do guitar based bands such as Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines influence us, but electronically driven bands such as Friendly Fires, Enter Shikari and Delphic do too, which we hope gives us a good edge.

What makes our adventure most satisfying is the fact that were all best friends- as cheesy as it is! Our drummer and guitarist who joined in roughly 2008 were great friends with the band anyway, and thus, the transition from acoustic to electric music was seamless. One of the best qualities about our band is our live show. We have been praised highly for our energetic, engaging performances, in which audiences have told us are captivating. This is a great compliment as the most important thing is to be able to reproduce recordings live; this, we feel, we do to an excellent standard. We think that it is fair to say we've come a long way from the shambolic, Audacity recordings round one microphone, and with the release of our new EP entitled 'Rubix' coming up, we can't wait to see what happens next!
