"The Vicious Martinis (American Giants Records)"

This American band takes classic AOR/Melodic Rock melodies from the 80s into an updated rocksound, ending up sounding like a cross between FIREHOUSE, HAREM SCAREM and CREED. The songs are very catchy and melodic, with a slight raw modern touch in the vocal department (such as the NICKELBACK sounding “It tears me”), although I am safe to say this THE VICIOUS MARTINS is actually a pure Melodic Rockband. They sound like the next big thing, with songs like “Slipper”, “Just where I found you” (the catchy early 80s approach) and “Red house” being very strong melodic rocksongs. Definitely a band to watch out for in the near future. In the meantime check out their sites at: or

"Hooks Abound for Pop-Rockers"

Have I heard The Vicious Martinis on the radio before? Even if I haven't, their familiar sound certainly wouldn't be out of place on the airwaves. This supergroup, comprised of musicians from an array of now defunct DC bands, writes power-pop anthems as good as anybody. This upbeat track, "A Song Named Sue," is musically fun, layering melodic guitar riffs and a quirky keyboard part that really turns up the fun. The witty lyrics are sung with a raw, edgy sound, topping off this loud and fast rock song. Catch these local favorites live at TT Ryenold's August 26th.
