The Villain

The Villain Became in early 2006. Based in the North Coast of NSW, this Byron Bay three piece describe them selves (with out any degree of exactitude) as Roots Rock. Front man & conductor Dan Best has clung tenaciously to the coat tails of this project since 2000 & has directed its kaleidoscopic evolution to its present day incarnation. Dan delivers his anger fuelled vocals richly disguised by a controlled & powerful voice, imparting his black nursery rhyme-like message. Armed only with his acoustic guitar, Dan often bewilders audiences with a morass of guitar torture that climbs from sweetly complex melodies to demented sounds-capes & potentially violent lead fiascos. “People often comment on how they can’t believe that such ‘full on’ sounds are coming from an acoustic guitar & not an electric one” says Dan, “I love how unstable the sound is with that gapping hole out the front of the guitar”. Unstable is a fitting description of the Villains sound, more precisely, however, their live show. The Villain are becoming known for their intense stage presence & appreciated for the galvanic theatrics that are stirring people into allegiance.
