""When discussing straight up pop music in Austin, it’s rare that you find a band that can create tunes such as these.""

"When discussing straight up pop music in Austin, it’s rare that you find a band that can create tunes such as these." - Austin Town Hall

""I love the clear, bright sound, but it packs a punch and is still a bit rough around the edges""

"Sometimes all you need to make your day are some sweet, singalong harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and a driving drum beat. You can find those qualities in the latest singles from Austin’s The Villas. I love the clear, bright sound, but it packs a punch and is still a bit rough around the edges" - Side One Track One

""Austin's The Villas just shared their new album A Century of Tries with the world. ""

Austin, TX’s The Villas just shared their new album A Century of Tries with the world. This track, “Courtyard,” sounds like a group heavily inspired by late 90s pop covering some lost late 1950s teen song. I like this track now, but I feel like I would’ve gone nuts for it mid-high school. - You Ain't No Picasso

""Spyglass features a sort of post-punk type sounds that seems to be lacking a bit in the Austin scene right now.""

Austin based band Villas just sent us a new song they are releasing soon as an online single. The track is called "Spyglass" and features a sort of post-punk type sound that seems to be lacking a bit in the Austin scene right now. It's a song built around a simple power chord chorus that has me singing along with fist pumping in the air. - Austin Town Hall

""This Austin band's got spunk and loves loud melodic pop, in the Weezer vein.""

"This Austin band's got spunk and loves loud melodic pop, in the Weezer vein. Lead singer Jonathan Berry snarles out every tune, with a crunchy guitar by Bryan Winter." - Powerpopaholic

""Remember when indie pop actually made you smile...""

Remember when indie pop actually made you smile giving you that fuzzy, giddy feeling ? Well, it still exists with the new Austin quartet, The Villas. The title track, Jamie, is a fun combination of Weezer meets Fountains Of Wayne, full of crunchy guitars and ba-ba-ba, oh yeah singalong harmonies. The next 3 tracks, "Babybomb", "Pin You Down", and "Ripy" proudly display the band's unabashed love for classic powerpop sounds and even a bit of Britpop (bands like Blur and Ash). The EP reaches a melancholy, somber end with Fading In My Mind and a clean version of the title track. This EP is available for download from Bandcamp for $4.99. A great deal for indie/powerpop fanatics to add to their music library and playlists. For Austin fans, you can catch The Villas this weekend, Fri Nov 5th, at Scoot Inn for the Austin Indie Pop Spectacular which also features White Hotel and The Stan Laurels. $5 cover plus a Britpop/Indie DJ set afterwards. - Super-Pop!

"The Villas - 6.5.16"

It’s about time The Villas came by Studio 1A. This Austin-based rock group delivers a large sound with a bit of British nostalgia á la The Blur or Oasis. With well crafted pop arrangements, overdriven guitars and infectious melodies, The Villas deliver a solid indie rock experience. One of the best tests of a band is if their live performance can hold up to the recordings. Comparing their latest release, Long Player, to their visit with us, this quartet could hold their own and deliver a completely amazing set.

Be sure to catch The Villas this Thursday, July 7th at Barracuda alongside Ramesh, A.Sinclair and Thee Commons (doors at 9pm). If you can’t wait until the show, then check out their performance on Studio 1A in the links below! - Will Maxwell - KUTX

"Song of the Day - The Villas: "Never Had A Morning""

Austin four-piece the Villas spent the first few years of their existence putting out EPs, each featuring short blasts of spiky power-pop. Now comes their debut album, fittingly called Long Player, and the band doesn’t waste any time. There’s something distinctly British-sounding about the group, hitting a sweet spot somewhere between the Jam and Blur. “Never Had A Morning” even throws a stuttering Heart-esque riff into the mix. Download the song below. - Art Levy - KUTX
