"Gig Guide Magazine Album Review 'Far Flung'"

'The Violet Jive' is the brainchild of musician and lyricist Steve Spall, and 'Far Flung' is a collection of work spanning 4 years of creativity. What you find on the albumis a collection of laid back, mellow hits that have dreamy overtones. This is no copycat swing-jazz album though; it has a sound unique to itself and a self confessed "cool dark alternative twist"! Think relaxing on a hot summer evening in the trendiest wine bars and you'll be starting to get the feeling.
There are excellent jazz guitar sections ('Girl in Green') and the double bass is often pronounced and heavy, giving a deep, dark feeling to the musict throughout whilst 'Girl in Green' has a somewhat cheeky, mischievious feel to ti. All the music is very though provoking, yet it's easy to get swept away in the melodies and latin rhythms, highlighted by Steve's gentle but powerful vocals. 'A Good Energy' is The Gig Guides favourite with it's heavy bass induced darkness, and catchy chorus hooks. - GC Publishing

Bio

Formed by U.K based musical mixologist, songwriter, producer Steve Spall (Guitar/Vocals) as a platform for his outside the box yet melody friendly original material. The band features Paul Beeching on the 'cupboard of love' aka Double Bass, and rhythmic rebel Matt Wilson on Drums, alongside Spall's mesmerizing vocals and highly revered 'filthy Spy-esque' swing guitar prowess.

Influences from 50's swing, alternative rock, exotica, trip-hop, blues, hip-hop, rockabilly and latin styles help create the band's atmospheric, alluring sound, which is hard to label or define but lies somewhere between The Jungle Book soundtrack, eerie melodies of trip-hop pioneers Portishead, old skool hip-hop beats, latin rhythms/parisian vibes of Gotan Project, dark riffs of alternative rock group Soundgarden and swing guitar motifs ala legends Wes Montgomery & Django,... perhaps! appealing to a wider variety of hepcats and music lovers in general.

Performances at festivals and venues across the South East U.K, including Shakespeare's The Globe Theatre bar London, plus airplay and live sessions on BBC Radio Kent are helping to establish The Violet Jive as a refreshingly different originals act on the scene. Strong songs with memorable melodies, colourful lyrics and awesome musicianship.
