Sometimes, music can take you outside of yourself.
Possibly to another dimension to where you are no longer yourself anymore, where your vision of what music is and how you hear music changes. This is what happens when you experience Darkmatter. Complete with vocals, keys, drums and bass; you have something totally different than what you normally hear in California. When lead singer/songwriter/pianist Kori Lynn met drummer Travis Pavur, they presented a love of Classical, Grunge, and Rock fused together to form music that shows us young musicians can still create art that’s so beautiful it can make you lose yourself. Even though they were good, they knew that there was a missing piece to their musical puzzle, and that’s when Travis’s good friend, bass player Nick McCaa, from New Orleans came to Los Angeles and completed Darkmatter. Each one of these artists possess a unique talent that when combined with the others make this threesome unstoppable.
Singing ‘Scarecrow’ at her parent’s piano was my introduction to Kori Lynn as an artist of music. She blew me away. From that moment, I knew that there was something remarkable in her; something that she had to express and share with the world. She had her vision of what she wanted in a band, and not only did she find it, but she did it. When they step on that stage, whatever happened in their lives before is irrelevant. For that time that they are on stage performing, they become the music. Everything they know and feel about music is channeled through them, and the music takes over. They go into ‘ the zone’ during their set, and even after it’s done, the music lingers. When I think of Dark Matter, I think of the creation of life, and tranquility, and the combination leaves you wanting more.

For Kori Lynn, Travis, and Nick, it is not about just having a band, doing shows and partying, it’s about self-expression; who they are as human beings. There is nothing else that they want to do, except create music and show those who are struggling with life’s difficulties, that if you work really hard, are truly passionate with your craft that you will overcome negativity and share your gifts with the world. Hearing songs like ‘Suffocate (Is There Anyone Out There)’ and ‘Scarecrow’, you can’t help but wonder what was going on in Kori’s mind when she wrote the songs. She put it all together as one masterpiece that you can’t help but fall in love.
