"The Weathermakers Come Alive"

It's really not difficult to make comparisons when writing about Alive In The City, the new EP from The Weathermakers. Take a little Nirvana-circa-In Utero, add in a heavy dollop of riot grrl, and -- presto! -- you've got this album.

Just saying that The Weathermakers are heavily influenced by the '90s, however, doesn't quite do their EP justice. As songs like "Dusty City" and "Chicago" demonstrate pretty amply, the band not only captures the sound of the era, they also capture its feel. There's a rawness here that would've fit in perfectly with most bands of the early part of the decade, and it helps ensure that Alive In The City goes beyond simply aping the era's sound, and actually sounds like a product of the times.
