Bio

The Whale & The Warbler is an ever-expanding, swing-folk collective from Rochester, NY. The band was built on a common love for powerful folk music, dynamics, story-telling. Swirling with horns, and pounding with drums, The Whale weaves elements of folk, jazz, and lo-fi into a music that "starts off with the delicate lightness of a perched warbler and eventually swells like the sea under a swimming whale" (ROCKchester Daily).

Led by Conor McCann, The Whale was formed throughout various basements during the winter and autumn of 2012 in Geneseo, NY, where the band attended college. They recorded their debut, full-length album, Thanksgiving, in a church and various bedrooms in the same village throughout 2013. The album was recorded and engineered by Whale members Dan Lynch and Jameson Dunham Released in September, the album has steadily gained position in the Bandcamp's popularity rankings for freak-folk and lo-fi albums.

The Whale & The Warbler's outfits have been as large as octets with two drummers to McCann playing as a solo artist. Their ability to vary so drastically create varying performances of the same songs, each as unique as a finger-print. They have played shows in New York, Rochester, and Massachusetts and are preparing to take the band on an extended tour in the Summer to promote Thanksgiving and their forth-coming EP.
