With the recent release of their eponymous debut, local trio The White Soots offered up an excellent dish of quality rock n’ roll. Fueled by the guitar histrionics of Kyle Byrum, the Soots filter 70s arena sludge, 60s garage, and 50s rock n’ roll into an exceptionally engaging package. With copious doses of fuzzy psychedelia, deep rhythmic grooves and Byrum’s growling vocal delivery, this debut serves as an excellent distillation of the numerous power trios that have cast long shadows across the rock landscape for nearly a generation while avoiding mere imitation. For those who still like to get up and shake it, tune in to The White Soots now. The White Soots will perform on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Oregon Express, 336 E. Fifth St. Also on the bill are The Lions Rampant (from Cincinnati) and Garbage Kills Bears. Doors at 9 pm. Admission is $5 for 21 & up. "Although new to the Dayton scene, these seasoned musicians breathe vitality into a blues-rock platform that draws equally from Austin, Akron and Detroit." -Kyle Melton - Dayton City Paper

Local music group The White Soots has been tearing up the Dayton music scene since April of 2009, by blending the sounds from 60's and 70's psychedelic rock with the blues to create a unique sound that does not let you down in the least. With the line up consisting Kyle Byrum (guitar and vocals) and Kraig Byrum (drums) along with Karl Benge (Bass), they create a vibe that is reminiscent of Stevie Ray Van and The White Stripes at one moment then feeling more like Bob Marley and Pink Floyd the next.

With the release of their first independent studio Self Titled album, which is available through either the band's MySpace page (www.myspace.com/thewhitesoots) or their main web page www.thewhitesoots.bandcamp.com, their sound has been beginning to spread. The album was even voted the 32nd best album in the Top 50 best albums of 2010 by Cybucca Sounds, a website dedicated to underground and unsigned music.

The band is presently playing shows around the Dayton area in numerous venues like The Southpark Tavern and Canal Street Tavern just to name a few. The show dates and times can be found on the band's website or through their MySpace and Facebook pages.

Welcome to another edition of Bandcamp Recommendations. This week is a good week. First is a band that was recommended to us that is so damn good, I almost decided to review the album in lieu of today’s recommendations. That’s certainly not to discount the other bands recommended today as they have equally awesome music as well. As ru Brinkerhoff once sang, it’s on with the show

The White Soots are from Ohio, a hotbed for all that is good in music lately. This one was recommended to us on our Facebook page from Jim. Jim has a keen ear for good music so when says to check something out, we listen. The White Soots music can best be described as The Black Keys grew up in the southern part of the US, take their style and infuse some Led Zeppelin into it. No Danger Mouse produced into it either and you get The White Soots. The cool thing, this album is a full length, no demo or short EP. - www.thesodashop.wordpress.com

Let Me just say, if You like The Black Keys, You'll LOVE this.

"The White Soots are a blues/rock trio from Dayton, OH. The band formed in early 2009 with brothers Kyle(Guitar/Vocals) and Kraig Byrum(Drums) and longtime friend Karl Benge(Bass) and began playing in clubs in Dayton under the name Fuzz Hound, which was changed to The White Soots after about 1 year of playing. They specialize in a bluesy, psychedelic mix of guitar infused rock and roll." ~ (Last.FM)
