Biography

Over the past 12 months Liverpool’s The Wicked Whispers have embarked on two UK tours, performed European dates in France and Spain as well as appearing at Summer festivals including The Big Chill. The band have also organised and hosted two of their own annual hometown events ‘The Butterfly’s Ball and The Grasshopper’s Feast’, both of which have been sold-out successes.

In the midst of this busy period, the band released their debut EP ‘The Dark Delights of The Wicked Whispers’ in Summer 2011 on Electone Records. This limited edition (300 copies) hand numbered 10” vinyl was produced by Steve Powell (The Stairs, Mick Head and the Strands) and featured 4 exclusive tracks including ‘Amanda Lavender’ and ‘Odyssey Mile’. Following huge demand from Amazon, Rough Trade London and Piccadilly Records Manchester, the debut EP sold out shortly after its release, becoming a sought after and collectable relic.

The EP was accompanied by The Wicked Whispers debut video, ‘Amanda Lavender’ which was directed by Mark McNulty and edited by Brainface. The video, which first aired in Spring 2011, starred model Charlotte Cooper and went on to receive an incredible response earning the band a wider loyal following. The video has since been highlighted on NME TV’s pick of the day, received airplay from Stuart Maconie BBC 6Music show and assisted in an invitation to Abbey Road Studios from BBC Radio 1 for their first BBC Introducing Masterclass.

The Wicked Whispers ended 2011 by supporting Echo and The Bunnymen at their 2 hometown shows and are set to announce details of their anticipated next release expected Spring/Summer 2012.

“A great psychedelic pop group”
- Stuart Maconie, BBC 6Music

"On the evidence if this wonderful debut, Liverpool group The Wicked Whispers can be deemed
one of Great Britain's overtly psychedelic-sounding and exciting new pop groups to have
emerged in many a pink moon".
- Shindig! Magazine

" On 10” EP The Dark Delights of The Wicked Whispers' (Electone Records) they deliver the
perfect 1967 psych/folk-rock tune with ‘Amanda Lavender’ ".
- Record Collector Magazine

“Take the edge-of-macabre organ styling’s of The Doors and apply it to a slowly swaying,
retrojangle with a British accent. Add some plaintive harmonies and a slightly modern sensibility and what you end up with is The Wicked Whispers”.
- Musoscribe
