Bio

Finding themselves weary of playing trashy punk music that is typical of the high school scene in their hometown, Ansel Gonzalez, and Tevita (Kalani) Lomu took it upon themselves to play and create music that they believe is unique to South Bay San Diego. Ansel and Tevita created The Winders in 2012 in hopes of bringing attention to a sub-genre of rock known as surf-folk. What had started out as a few friends playing music in a garage had soon evolved into something more serious. Although able to play multiple instruments, Ansel was designated as rhythm guitarist and Tevita the bassist with both alternating on lead vocals. In need of a drummer, Sarah Moreno was asked to join the band. While there was some contention about her lack of experience she has since proven to hold her own. Soon after Sarah, Natasha Juarez and Sammy Pierce were added as violinist and lead guitarist respectively. With the band set, The Winders released a rough-cut demo and began playing house shows and school functions. After gaining a new fan base the Winders found themselves down two band members. Natasha left for college and Sammy went on to create his own band, The Gravities. The split was amicable and The Winders still have great relationships with both. Down to only three members it was decided that RJ Gonzalez, a close friend and fellow musician, would join the band as lead guitarist. It is with this current lineup that The Winders feel confident that they have created something really special. Currently The Winders are in the process of recording their debut EP and continue to play shows in the greater San Diego area.
