Bio
The Winter Coats are an east coast Canadian noise/experimental rock band. Their self-released debut album, “A Black Cloud Between You and the Sun” is a highly original concept album that has already received excellent reviews. It’s been described as a “well orchestrated and melodic 12-piece movement,” a “beautiful oddity,” and “like LSD …on acid.” It’s also been compared to “steampunk and dystopian styles of art and landscape.”
“A Black Cloud Between You and the Sun” contains elements of noise rock, lo-fi, atmospheric and ambient music, post-rock, and straight-ahead trashy punk – all wrapped up in a noisy, analog and very original shell.
Essentially a concept album, it takes inspiration from Sir Fred Hoyle’s 1957 science fiction novel, “The Black Cloud”, and its frisson of apocalypse. It’s a dark album for dark times, but the Coats’ compositions contain passages of music and riffs that are nothing short of exhilarating.
