"Short and sweet"

THE WITHEREES: I’ve been meaning to give these guys a serious listen for a while now, since the first time I ran across ‘em back in 2011, so I’m happy to finally have an excuse to take the plunge.
And hey, it’s well worth it, at least so far; folk-country-pop duo The Witherees play a warm-yet-barebones style of guitar-centric folk that calls to mind The Mountain Goats at points (see “Juiceton”) and Lucero at others (see “Sunshine” and “Shy Girl”), with a sharply bitter, sarcastic touch to the backstreet-wise stories spun out in the lyrics. They’re the kind of folk songs you wish that asshole with the guitar up on stage at open-mic night was playing, rather than the sappy, insipid crap he’s spewing. - Space City Rock

"quick description"

Also on Saturday, Notsuoh will host the two piece acoustic sounds of Houston’s The Witherees. If you’ve never seen these guys, I’ll just say that you’ll be surprised what sounds an acoustic guitar and a stripped down drum kit can make. - Free Press Houston

Still working on that hot first release.

The Witherees started as a busking outfit nearly a decade ago. After playing many a sidewalk, open mic, and punkhouse, The Witherees turned into a full fledged band. In March of 2011 Jimi Cavazos was asked to play drums to a few songs written by long time friend and band member, Mikey Castillo...the two have been writing stories of life on the gulf coast ever since. Both Cavazos and Castillo are/have been members of other regional acts that play various genres. The main influences for The Witherees music are lost loves, alcoholism, friends, and life in general. It's a stripped down, no nonsense punk duo, playing acoustic instruments.
