"NME Moving to New York Single Review"

MOVING TO NEW YORK (KIDs)

Boasting influences ranging from Hefner to Depeche Mode (as well as a Norwegian bassist), The WOMBATS have more in common with the cerebral Scouseadelia of The Boo Radleys than the urch rock racket of fellow local contenders The Maybes?. And, oh, they've got the tunes. A confident stride on from debut 'Lost in the Post', 'Moving to New York' is a dolie's ode to indolence and escapism, delivered with an acid wit worthy of Sir Jarvis himself. "It's like Christmas came early!" sighs singer Matthew Murphy, as the band deliver improbable three-part harmonies behind him. Fingers crossed he doesnt get a US visa - he's needed right here! PM

Single released Monday 13th November (www.kidsthelabel.co.uk) Limited

"NME Live Review"

The WOMBATS – Brixton Windmill, London. Sunday, September 24, 2006, by Marc McLaren

You’ve got to feel sorry for Liverpudlian bands: so much history, so many expectations. Unless you’re in The WOMBATS, that is, in which case history can piss off. Avoiding the pitfalls of chiming La’s-style guitars and chirpy Coral-esque vocals with a smart bound across the Pennines, these two Scousers and one seriously hyperactive Norwegian came across more New Yorkshire than old Merseybeat. Opener ‘Moving To New York’ leaps along like a four-year-old on a bouncy castle – kinda like The Cribs, but without all the blood – while last single ‘Lost In The Post’ and the closing ‘Sunday TV’ are all spiky guitars, witty lyrics and Beach Boy “woo-woo”s. Lots and lots and lots of “woo-woo”s. Fair enough, there’s nothing startlingly new here, but when you’ve got more tunes than a pharmacist’s counter, who cares? And not a mop-top haircut in sight.
