INESSCANT guitars, experimental percussion and a constant drum beat are what The Words are all about, such is the running theme throughout EP ’All The Roads.’ And they certainly do travel down every avenue with first track ’Under The Sun’ harking back to the 1980s and following tracks ’Silver Line’ and ’Time’ being much more modern sounding tunes, returning to their older influences for final track ’Holding up the Walls'.
What makes the group so appealing though is not only their diversity and mix of different sounds but the stark rawness that they boast.
Perhaps sourced directly to the vocalist’s raw accent, they have a sense of originality about them that is reminiscent of the Kings of Leon and Franz Ferdinand.
Mixing the spirit of Indie with the melodic sounds of Motown, The Words create a style of music that excites and entertains buts also hits all the right places. They seem to know exactly what you expect from a modern day rock band and deliver without struggle, making for a thoroughly enjoyable EP.
Experimental, original and catchy, each track on this four-song EP leaves it’s lasting memory and sense of fulfilment and contentment. The Words are satisfying as they are pleasing to hear and if you are looking for a quick fix of rock then they are the group to download. Released: April 13 2009

'All The Roads' is a four-track EP from Manchester indie-smiths The Words; bold vocals set against incessant guitars, phatt bass and atomically-timed percussion result in a pretty unforgettable and statement-making sound.
With easy melodies and openly accessible 'words', The Words dish out their catchy 'chunes' with well proportioned but pretty sassy aggression that make their songs undeniably singalongable. There's nothing overly-clever, angular or obtuse here; The Words are pretty straight-arrow in their ballsy approach and make a pretty commercial 'noise'
Tracks included here are, 'Under The Sun', 'My Silver Line', 'Time' and 'Holding Up The Walls'; four varied but very focussed offerings that say a great deal about this punchy but somewhat quirky sounding outfit. It's indie alright but its just far enough removed from the indie 'norm' to be enticing and intriguing. Whether The Words are sitting back and giving it calm and controlled or whether they're lashing out with big riffs and frenzied crescendos they seem to be able to hold it all beautifully together and create an inoffensive yet compelling electric 'storm' of sound.
The Words emanate a feeling of instrumental and compositional maturity and the four tracks here clearly demonstrate their collective artistry and ambition. 'All The Roads' by The Words certainly gets the job done and leaves the listener in no doubt about the drive and potential of this band. 'All The Roads' should be listened to at high dbs to get the most out of The Words' kerranging attitudinal execution; the songs may be generally simplistic in form but The Words make up for their relatively basic instincts by thrashing it out loud and proud. Very likeable and very contagious stuff this from The Words; 'All The Roads' is rammed with instant appeal and nicely accessible songs - impressive and potentially 'chart-wise' material delivered with dedicated professionalism and nicely controlled 'guts'.

The Words are a 4 piece indie band based in Manchester who are developing an exciting reputation as one of the top unsigned bands in the country by combining an incredible passion for music with the ability to create 'music for the masses', songs that are instantly recognisable and undeniably infectious.
Drawing on an enormous range of influences from David Bowie through to The Strokes, The Words have managed to create their own unique style of music that both entertains and excites.
Over the past 12 months The Words have opened the Incoming Festival at The Fly in London and performed nearly 100 gigs at venues around the UK culminating in a recent sell out performance headlining at Academy 3 in Manchester. The band’s music has also been recognised with ‘Drum for a Soul’ being licensed for an independent film, ‘Caroline’ being selected for Microsoft’s recent sponsored song program to promote Windows 7 and ‘Under the Sun’ being featured by Mercedes-Benz in their mixtape promotion. ‘Under the Sun’ was also recently “introduced” by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music.
The Words have recently returned from a successful tour of Scotland and followed that up with the release of their first official single ‘FAG’. The Words are now fine tuning a selection of exciting new tracks which are currently going down a storm in the live arena and will form the basis of their first studio album.
