The Wussies
Mourning Sickness
Self Release

Self proclaimed slackers always win. How do you ruin a fortress built to spill? Make no mistake, The Wussies Mourning Sickness revives memories of a time less plastered with hair gel and fresh styles, a season for morbid self-deprecation, a decade filled with real people saying really ironic things about reality isn't it inspiring to consider the opportunity for musicians to succeed in sales while actually accounting for what they believe.

Well, The Wussies come close. Not in sales, of course, and not that they have necessarily arrived as the band they hope to become, but the San Francisco trio appear to have concocted a canon which doesn't sound like some pussy raced home and wrote songs after receiving an injection of inspiration, wandering through the mall, or picking up the latest issue of whatever rag lured the latest glossy role model for youths aged 11-18 to reveal his/her most sincere views on the political climate in abstract terms.

Wussies play straight. The vocals are hooky. The guitars are hooky. The drums are bouncy. The mood is bouncy. The lyrics are tolerable. They allude to vagina, drawn out break-ups, prescription drugs and a horrible affliction currently affecting too many of our youth, but not me or my friends, sterility.

I would guess The Wussies basked in the Nirvana idolatry which spread since the anniversary of Nevermind, and, of course Kurt Cobain blowing out his brains, but it's OK because Mourning Sickness is fun.
