Bio

The Yellow Dress was started in San Francisco in 2007 by Dan Weiss and Jonathan Kirk Moyer. Over time they've grown and polished, adding members like an indie rock avalanche. They've been described as a Magnetic Fields with less self-loathing, and a Velvet Underground without all the drugs. They've played shows with Jeffrey Lewis, John Vanderslice, and Sonny Smith, and pride themselves on getting even the most jaded bar audience singing along. They hate writing about themselves in the third person. They are here for you.

"Their music is fiercely energetic and very carefully crafted. There is a Decemberists/Mountain Goats vibe, no doubt, but the Yellow Dress is their own thing, adjacent to both those bands, but a little more morbid, a little more precious[...] good winter music: bleak in tone but spirited, overcast, a little fucked up."

"If you're into indie-pop, you need to know about The Yellow Dress. Faint Music / Ordinary Light is a wonderful album that takes all the idiosyncrasies that make DIY indie-pop great and rolls them together. It's the first great album of 2014."
-Independent Clauses

"If you were to take members of the Magnetic Fields, the Mountain Goats, and Los Campesinos, plunk them into the San Francisco lit scene for a few years, and tell them to write about heartbreak in a way that won't kill anyone's Sunday afternoon Dolores Park buzz, you might get
something like the Yellow Dress."
