July 9th - Yippee it’s The Yipes
Artist: The Yipes

So I had a listen to the latest offering for The Yipes, a four piece from Telford. A very modern rock/indie package with a pretty urban feel to them. The fact that they are close friends has filtered into their tight, honest performances.

“Tick Tock” definitely showcases what these guys are all about. It has a range of vocal effects and a great dynamic – we are taken on at trip of fast/slow and loud quiet. There are nods to modern acts such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Streets but this is no copy band rather the next evolvement. They add a certain amount of themselves to the mix and that is what makes them a great act. The versatile bass player, Shaun Bucknell, is a real star and keeps the pace and power really through this catchy number

“All My Friends are Ghosts” takes you on a real journey with it’s haunting verse and awesomely harmonised and uplifting chorus plus a few curve balls thrown in for good measure. This really showcases how different these guy’s could be. They are one of those great acts that come together and make some special tunes

The thing that made me want to review these guys and what elevated them in my mind from being a good band to being a great band was the song “17” It is a very English, very Urban story telling piece which really draws you into their lives and makes you remember when you were 17 and isn’t that what music at its purest should do? Take you away and make you think, remember and reminisce. Plus it has a great sing-a-long chorus. I honestly can’t get enough of this track.

Claire (Give a Band a Hand).............You guys have some serious potential. (Apr 2009) - - Review by Give a Band a Hand (Claire)

DJ Katy Jay WCRfm 101.8fm .............Snappy, slick set; well-delivered - good vocals.
You have some great songs - self-penned with a pre-emptive maturity for a group so young, old mates playing in newness (less than a year old!) and fabulous stage presence (very relaxed, natural and upbeat - you interact with your audience lovely)... you're raw, new and up for it - look forward to see where you're going. Newport Naval Club..........It’s great to see newcomers on stage and this week was no exception with the first appearance of an extremely talented young band The Yipes. Jake Bucknall and Lewis Bates were on guitar and vocals, Jake’s brother and the youngest band member Shaun was on bass and on drums, Dan White. Playing two of their own songs as well as cover versions of Supersonic by Oasis and The Subways Rock and Roll Queen this foursome were relaxed and confident playing for the first time in front of alive audience. I am sure they will be back and appreciated the well deserved praise from the crowd and experienced musicians at the Navy Club. (Sep 2008)
