Bio

HISTORY New York City's dark, gritty nightlife provides the backdrop for the music of Mark Right and THE YOUNG UNKNOWNS. Fueled by the long nights slinging drinks in grimy downtown bars for drunken hipsters, gangsters and wannabes, Mark's music is an honest and hopeful portrayal of urban life in the seams and in between.

Born in 1977 on the same day Elvis died and playing music since he was 8 years old, Mark possesses a raw and elegant voice that summons memories of early Tom Waits and Kurt Cobain--the latter of which has greatly influenced Mark's songwriting.

With his carefully crafted melodies that stick to the ears like glue and his honest, anthemic lyrics, Mark's music paints a visceral and impressionistic portrait of the struggle to be young and unknown. With the forthcoming March 2005 release of Volume 1: The East Village Sessions on Hand2Mouth Records, Mark Right and THE YOUNG UNKNOWNS deliver one of the most resonant debuts in recent New York City music history.

A powerful mix of carefully crafted melody and raw acoustic power, The East Village Sessions chronicles the first wave of songs from the first incarnation of the group. The result of several months of intense writing and recording, Vol1:EVS boasts Mark's memorable, energetic songs and evocative melodies over minimal musical compositions.

The band is currently writing new material for a brand new and more amplified record set to come out later this year, also on Hand2Mouth Records. In the meantime they will be performing in and around New York City preparing to take their music to the hungry masses later this year.
