"Our Article in the Independent"

Upright Citizens: On any given Thursday night, Santa Barbara unfurls and a hidden army of attractive coeds scatter across our streets. Being a city on the water, we only half encompass the glitz of big-city nightlife, but once all is said and done, and the nightly battles are replaced by a reticent dawn, Santa Barbara rolls back on its aged haunches for another day of peace, relaxation, and responsibility. Providing a sonorous background to our waged war against time's passing, hail native sons The Youth and Beauty Brigade. The YBB layer amorous sounds and haunting vocals that resemble the Killers, Razorlight, or Muse, but with the tragedy of Joy Division, a gritty 90's grunge film, and enough lo-fi to substantiate the middle-age angst and lower class self-righteousness we all seem to be suffering from. Taking their name, but not much else, from the Decemberists, The YBB's sexy subtlety and stylish blue-collar appeal provides a far less pretentious - and much more definitive - cry from the battlefield of our young-at-heart city.

Bio

The Youth and Beauty Brigade was formed in the summer of 2006. After Adam Hopkins (vocals/guitar) finished touring as the bass player for The Cinematic Underground, he recruited childhood friend Brad Jensen (drums) and long time friend Ethan Duffy (bass) to form the band. With an emphasis on meaningful lyrics the band took on The Decemberists' inspired name "The Youth and Beauty Brigade." Later on Brayden Russel (Rhythm Guitar) formerly of Santa Barbara based band "My Life Story" was added to complete the lineup. With a mix of straight rock songs and more melodic rock, The Youth and Beauty Brigade delivers sets that will keep the audience engaged.
