Bio

The Zen Monkeys have evolved out of the group "Red Letter Day." They are known for genre-hopping styles and a rollicking live show that combines multi-instrumental talents, rousing vocals, and thoughtful songwriting.

Asked to characterize her musical style, Mallow grins and says, "It's a lot of things - gospel, blues, pop, folk rock, bluegrass." "Hardly a tune passes that doesn't offer considerable rewards, a sharp melodic hook or a colorful array of folk and pop textures," says the Washington Post in a review of one of her performances.

Mallow's "Red Letter Day" productions have garnered seven Washington Area Music Award nominations for best alternative pop band, best alternative pop album, best rock album, best rock band, best female vocalist, best duo and best duo/group. And there's more! She has performed with Dar Williams, Edwin McCain, Jann Arden, John Wesley Harding, Little Feat and the BoDeans, and one of Mallow's tunes from "4 Bowls of Color" (a "Red Letter Day" CD) was featured on the WB Network television show "Smallville".

The Zen Monkeys up-coming album will offer an even greater musical experience!
