The Zen Theory was originally formed around January 2010 by Drummer Craig Tomanini, Lead Singer and Lead guitarist Nash Gonzales, Keyboardist Paula Johnson, Jason Overton on Bass Guitar and Chris Heydlauff on Percussion. The name of the band was created when the bands first rehearsal occurred and the band realized they had tapped into something spiritual influenced by rock and blues greats such as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, The String Cheese Incident and Wide Spread Panic. The music makes you feel relaxed in a state of mental peace.
Soon after the bands journey out into the live performance realm playing regional shows for crowds numbered in the 100's, the band found themselves recording their first demo in Cottage Productions Studio to release in November of 2010 a 4 track EP to show the world they were serious about making music for a living.
In December of 2010 just a month after the release of their already sold out CD "Listen Simply - Simply Listen" the band was approached by Soteria Records a small independent label based out of Colorado about signing a 1 year 1 album deal which included the production genius of Victor Carbonell. The deal was signed and pre production work began right away.
In January of 2011 we then recruited the skills of Matt Martinez playing the Hammond Organ and the Keys, Don Derby on Lead and Rhythm Guitar and Tony Chavez fronting the band as our new Lead Singer...the current lineup has new material in tow as well as some of the classics.
The band is set to enter the studio in May 2011 sometime to begin the recording process for their first full length CD yet to be titled...
