"Her Skin Tastes Like Leather"

Like so many other DIY artists, Los Angeles four-piece Thieves coat their catchy songs in prickly layers of fuzz and reverb. They aren’t quite so easily pigeonholed as many of their contemporaries, however, with other, more unusual influences appearing alongside the woozy guitar pop. Case in point: “Leather Jenny,” an unsettling tune that’s halfway between a crooning lounge ballad and a scary-ass tango. After three minutes of spiky slow-burn, it finally erupts into the fuzz pop catharsis you were waiting for.

These dudes have an album coming out some time this year. Based on this song, they’re off to a good start. - Chipped Hip

Thieves Demo:

Leather Jenny
Chastity Of The Devil
1000 Pounds

Leather Jenny and Chastity of the Devil are incredibly solid and interesting tracks. Both of them sound like something straight out of an Ennio Morricone soundtrack. 1000 Pounds seems out of place, and while interesting, sounds like a rushed outtake. Overall, quite solid first attempt. I'll be very interested to see where this band goes in the future.

Best Friends 7" to be released in the summer.

Formed in late 2009, Thieves was born out of frontman Darren Hanson's need to do something new. After much popularity from 100 demo CDs, he found that his musical endeavor was becoming something much more than just a project. He decided to get a band together and start playing live.

Combining old school 60s baroque pop akin to the Zombies with modern rock bands like Muse and The Last Shadow Puppets, Thieves has been playing shows at local clubs and rapidly gaining a following in the Los Angeles music scene despite the fact that they have yet to release their first EP.
