Bio

T.E.N. (Third Eye Navigators) is a New Jersey based HipHop duo consisting of MC’s Shek the Rational and Supreme Wyzdom. The two met in a political science class at a local community college they were attending in the fall of 1997. After discovering they had a mutual love for the art and MC-ing, the two began to attend various open mic venues throughout the city developing their songwriting, recording and live performance chemistry.

A year later, they officially became a group and enlisted The Juggla for production embarking on a project which began as a demo, (Skills and Politics) and turned into a full album now finished, called “Scholatics.” This change was the result of a maturation occurring within the group. A strong level of social, cultural, and political awareness was always a part of their music, but their earlier recordings were influenced by a more confrontational, battle-ready style that placed greater emphasis on cleverly showing your level of skill. In lives where they had more serious battles to confront from within, they instead focused their creative energy on an album that was more introspective and culturally aware while still maintaining the intensity they’re known for. “Scholatics” is not only a clever display of skill, but scholarship (grounded in
attaining knowledge of oneself) and politics as well.
The song "Sovereignty's Order'' is a great example. Combining Native American soundscapes (Incan pan pipe, flute, & tribal drums mixed with vocal chants from the Kootenai/Salish tribe) with a fiery lyrical depiction of life in the sovereignty of this order. It expresses a parallel between indigenous culture and HipHop in that both have been exploited in the popular culture by market values which threaten the long term survival of our forms of expression. This is why the song has lines like:
(S.H.E.K.)
"If it all fell now/...where would you stand?/struggle for freedom's fight of be a product of 'the man'/knowledge your infrastructure so your peops could under stand/...we can't fall victim to the ways of uncle sam!/ or:
(Supreme)
"We came before Columbus/ navigators among us
Intellect in abundance with respect for other cultures/.....but now it seems dollar Bill is what determines justice.../blinding lady liberty to everything corrupted/
