A Prime Example of Roots Reggae

Roots Reggae has an uplifting effect on me, and Third Eye Reggae Band are no exception. Songs such as Concrete Jungle make original Roots Reggae stand out from the newer genres. The recordings are rich and delicately textured, and the lyrics are worthy of Nesta Marley himself.
Third Eye Reggae Band are a prime example of Roots Reggae, and until their albums show up in British music stores, I will hope to hear more of their fine songs hosted here.

Hello, my name is Edward Burke, I'm an avid reggae fan, and a student at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. I also host reggae, jazz, and world beat show on WWPV 88.7FM, the campus station. I'm listening to a dub of your version of Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle" right now through mp3.com, and i absolutely love it. I would say you guys are definitely keeping the roots alive, and I would be willing to play your music. - Mp3.com

Bio

Washington D.C. based Third Eye is a truly international band that unites musicians from the Caribbean basin. The band members have been playing together since 1981 and have developed into a high-energy, Roots Rock Reggae band known for instrumental dubs and subtle international influences. The name Third Eye is derived from the Egyptian symbol of the all seeing, metaphysical Third Eye of consciousness. It suits them perfectly, for the original sound they produce is hypnotic, mystical and powerful.

They have toured all over the U.S. and has shared the stage with artists such as Third World, Burning Spear, Israel Vibrations, Jimmy Cliff, The Wailers, Black Uhuru, Culture, Alpha Blondy, Lucky Duby ,Gregory Isaacs and Peter Broggs. They were also honored to perform at one of Bill Clinton’s victory parties where they delighted over 4,000 guests. This led to news coverage by the all the major networks.

In 1991 they received Four Wammies from the Washington Area Music Association for their album “Shadow of the Pyramid”. These were for Best Reggae Group, Best Produced Reggae Album, Best Reggae Album "Shadow of the Pyramid" and Best Reggae Instrumentalist "Shambu keyboards". Their album”Rights Of Man” was also voted by Reggae Report Magazine as the #1 “Best Independently Produced Reggae Album” by a U.S. based artist.

They have been influenced by many reggae greats; however several artists in particular had a profound impact on the band "Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Aswad and Black Uhuru". As Further evidence, one of the bands songs "Living in Society" was chosen to be on the compilation CD entitled "Putamyo Presents the Best of World Music" off the Rhino Record Label alongside these reggae greats: Dennis Brown, Lucky Dube, Ijahman, Wailing Souls, Black Uhuru among others. This accomplishment was significant in this bands career because the producers of that album thought that this song was worthy to be on the same disc with these great artists.

In 2005 they released a compilation CD containing some of their best songs which has taken the internet by storm. They have received close to 300,000 downloads from their MP3 site. An international buzz is stirring about the Third Eye sound as evident by smatterings of email from England, France, Thailand, Budahpest, Africa, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, South America, Canada and other regions as well..
