Bio

After their prog rock band imploded, singer Neil Nathan and bassist Frank Caira decided it was time for something new. Neil was feeling a bit cocky after the first rock song he had ever written was played on 92.3 K-Rock NY’s “The Buzz.” And when Frank started offering up some catchy riffs of his own, THIS was born.

After hooking up with jazz school graduate Seth Skolnick on guitar, they plumbed the depths of their various melodic rock backgrounds and wrote a plethora of tunes in many different styles over a year’s time. Fast forward two years and three drummers later, and they’ve got a polished, radio-ready rock sound that is coherent yet unique from song to song.

Since then, THIS has opened up for such acts as Capitol Recording Artists The Star Spangles, Artemis Recording Artist Jesse Malin, TVT Recording Artists Wayne, and Elektra Recording Artists Epidemic.

THIS tunes have been played on the radio in NY (WLIR) and LA (KLOS) and were available for download on RollingStone.com, making them the only unsigned band featured. Singer Neil Nathan was mentioned on Page Six of the New York Post. And the boys also wrote an eclectic score for an award winning short film called “Flights” that was shown at the LA Film Festival and at IFP Buzz Cuts sponsored by the Sundance Channel, among others.

THIS was then chosen for the Radical Records' NEW YORK CITY ROCK N ROLL compilation which was released in Fall 2003.

It wasn’t long after, that acclaimed producer Barrett Jones (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Bush) was turned on to the THIS sound and flew cross country to record their new EP. Together with new drummer Jonathon Tebeest, they spent ten days holed up in Quad Studios where The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and Metallica have all laid down classic tracks… and the session yielded some classics of their own.

With retro cool, a modern sound, chunky riffs, and anthemic choruses, THIS can deliver a poignant socio-political message with one song and make you smile or break your heart with another.

With their new self-titled release and high-energy live show, THIS has proven themselves a band worth checking out.
