"john lennony"

After recording countless tracks, albums, etc… in a basement, Benji decided to turn things up a notch on his latest offering, "Far Too Honest" and get out of the rut he felt stuck in. He enlisted Ken Stringfellows (REM, The Posies, etc...) to man the production board on the album and entered the studio to create, as stated in the bio, more of a project than a band, and that statement couldn't be any more true. Project albums tend to come from inside of someone's mind and 99% of the time something gets lost in the transfer from the mind to tape making a project or concept album a bit disconnected from the listener, however that is not the case with this album. This one flows perfectly and offers a unique sound to today's listeners while borrowing an influence of late 60's/early 70's era John Lennon more often than not. The producing on tracks like "Dogs" offers an echoey feel to the song adding a mono element to the album that takes you back to those late 60's records, where it was raw, but at the same time engaging. The pop aspects of this album are very evident on tracks like "Everywhere You Go" and "Calm Down Man." However, as stated above the overall feel that I get from this album is that John Lennon played a huge influence on Benji. Tracks like album opener "I Miss You" and "Clarice" take me back to those last recording sessions the Beatles had together before going there solo routes, where you could start to see the future ahead of them. I am not usually one for project albums due to the translation that gets lost in the recording but this one is perfectly done and cohesive to the listener and offers a great sound unlike modern bands, but is smart enough to tie in modern elements to the music to attract the listener. - the guestlist

(a project more than a band), and his first of many albums, far too honest. now he’s off to tell them all about it.
