Bio

“A petite energetic music wonder cleverly mixing up, indie accents, heavy drum beats and catchy pop melodies” BSF Magazine

Dede Davi going under the moniker of Dede is a Croydon-born singer, obsessed with things inside out and upside down , off and on the beaten track and a love affair with music that transcends genres. Her passion for music began as a child; after a brief stint on the flute she began teaching herself to play on an untuned ivory piano, that her mother had bought in an antique shop. This early start led to a desire to find a sound of her own and became a journey of self discovery and boundary pushing. Her secondary education at a local convent school enhanced her passion as she joined the choir and after persuading her parents to get her piano lessons she began to read and write music.

Her self-produced demos were recorded on a shoestring and went back to the very basics of music, composed on piano and then taking musicians into studios in the middle of the night to record live. Initially shy about her first songs, she sent a couple to her friends for feedback, and one passed it on to a radio DJ, soon she found her songs were being played on national radio ; but she felt she hadn’t yet discovered her sound, so she went back to the drawing board and after an exploration of acoustic sounds , indie riffs, rock and pop melodies it wasn’t long before her sound started to take shape.

With barely any recorded material , word of mouth started to spread and soon she was booked for gigs across London, Manchester and Nottingham. With no set band she played with whomever was willing, but now her backing band is a more permanent affair; incorporating a drummer, electric guitarist, bassist and ‘Roland’ the fondly nicknamed drum machine. Her Live performance is a force to be reckoned with, she is in her element with energetic, uplifting and dramatic deliveries and a unique powerful vocal which she puts down to a wide-range of musical heroines from Jill Scott ,to Natasha Khan.

‘Still sober’ marked a turning point in her writing and composing abilities. The song tells the macabre tale of a heartbroken female who seeks revenge on her partner, juxtaposed against an upbeat pop melody. The song has brought her much attention and earned her the title of MTVs top 20 ones to watch for 2012. Currently recording her E.P and with a series of live performances 2012 has got off to a great start for her and as they say…. keep watching.
