"Making a Mix: Mike Giammattei"

Who: Mike Giammattei, drummer for West Haven-based hard rock band This Time Down. Mike along with singer/pianist Mark Ferraro, guitarist Jimmy Jacobs and bassist Jeff Richardson make the kind of music that fans of nu-metal will love. It's the kind of rock that's hard, hummable and features catchy melodies. The band is tight and the music is occasionally surprising. - The New Haven Register

Bio

The band came together out of the ashes of several bands within the states of CT and CA. While front man Mark Ferraro was in LA w/ his band, bassist Jeff Richardson along w/ our former guitarist were working in a band called Calm to Chaos back in CT. As conflict does tend to happen in bands every now and again all three individuals found themselves on the outside looking in (unfortunately due to the actions of others). Ferraro, who was originally from CT as well, moved back to his hometown and began looking for another project. Apparently a mutual friend of the band, who just so happened to know both parties (before they became a unit) introduced the three musicians and This Time Down was born. The band had gone through several drummers before finally deciding on their current resident basher, former drummer with Pipe Line and Calm to Chaos, Mike Giammattei. The band also was in the market for a new guitarist, and it just so happened that drummer Mike G knew of just the right guy for the job; enter guitarist Jimmy Jacobs, who has been tearing up the local scene for quite some time. This foursome is determined and focused to become one of the best bands to ever come out of CT, but they need that positive belief system to back them and push them to places they've never been. Though the band does not have it's original lineup it is currently much stronger now than it ever has been before and ready to take on all comers.
The bands' sound is reminiscent of such National acts as Filter, Creed, AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Breaking Benjamin and Led Zeppelin. Their songs are very guitar driven and very melodic in nature, leading most people to bang their heads and throw up their rock horns, as well as leaving them wanting more. Along with a very strong rhythm section and powerful vocals TTD is looking to make some noise on not only the regional level of the Northeast, but Nationally as well. The band has one Self-entitled three-song demo out (featuring the tracks "Regret", "Nowhere to Run" and "Nothing Left"), and is currently working on their second offering (the length of which has yet to be determined).
They have played local venues/events such as New Haven staples Toads Place and Café Nine, Cooks Café in Naugatuck, Up or On The Rocks in Hartford, Dewey's Irish Pub in Seymour, Z's Corner Café in West Haven, The New Haven Street Festival, The Rock Ur Ink Off Tattoo & Music Fest to benefit the American Cancer Society, The Mr. Holland's Opus Society to aid in keeping music alive and well in schools, The Rocking for Autism event, The local benefit to aid in raising funds for Breast Cancer as well as rocking Shelton Day 2010 & 2011. Outside of the state the band has played KC's Tap in Pawtucket, RI and is looking to expand it's reach to other regional areas such as NY, NJ, PA and MA.
We have all been either to the top of the mountain or close to it's peak, only to lose our footing due to circumstances beyond our control (as in the actions of others). We therefore have been unable to completely fulfill our dreams as musicians: that dream is to be a touring band and to make a living out of making music!! This is something with every fiber of our being we all badly want to do. With your help we can take a step closer to that reality a little bit more and more every time we play. Give us the chance to show you what we're all about, you'll be glad ya did.
