Bio

San Francisco singer-songwriter Thomas Boles sings pop folk songs about the varieties of life, both good and bad, assembled into vignettes of hope with a couple of love songs thrown in for good measure. Growing up Thomas was a student of the radio. His musical vocabulary was built on listening to all styles with special interest in the Beatles, Italian great Lucio Battisti, oldies, 80’s new wave and R&B, 90’s rock ala Weezer/Radiohead/Foo Fighters blended with the SF independent music scene of the last 10 years. With such a large spectrum of musical influence to draw from, his original material may sound like pop but the content goes far beyond that. With a sweet voice and odd sense of humor Thomas Boles has crafted wonderful tales that have been compared to the styles of Bright Eyes, About a Boy, Matt Nathanson, Pedro the Lion, and the like.

Thomas Boles has been singing writing and performing originals throughout the Bay Area for close to a decade now as part of the power trios Face on Straight and Blue Blazer, as an acoustic duo and now solo. With a focus on playing solo over the last 3 or so years he has put out a slew of diy and independent releases including the recent live cd Local Living Room Live and a new-song subscription service called “Songadamonth.” He has brought his guitar case of memories and melodies to venues throughout SF Bay Area and even hosted his own showcases at the Brainwash Cafe and Mamá Art Cafe in San Francisco. He has played across the nation by way of bi-yearly tours and found a bit of a second home in the Midwest, especially Wisconsin and Michigan. With most of his time spent playing out, Thomas Boles has built the reputation of being the big guy with the sweet voice, that always ready to entertain with a anecdote or a goofy smile.

Boles has a studio album in the works, set to release in mid-2008, in which he plays most of the instruments with a little help from some of SF’s premier string players and friends he has met along his travels. He plans to continue to tour in support of the new record as well as expand his radius of regular gigging in the SF Bay Area. With the energetic performances, the sleepy grin and a bag of new songs, it is easy to see why Thomas Boles is winning over audiences everywhere. Prepare to be wooed by the pop folk goodness.
