"THOMAS CHAMPAGNE TRIO"

"THOMAS CHAMPAGNE TRIO"

"The 31-year-old Brussels saxophonist Thomas Champagne is a busy bee - and one who knew at an early age just what he wanted to do. (...) On it [the cd...] you can hear indirect influences from his three great models, Shorter, Coleman, and Coltrane, but these are assimilated into a sound that is entirely his own, thanks in part to the inventive contributions of bass-player Nicholas Yates and drummer Didier Van Uytvanck, combined with great attention to details. The ideal soundtrack for Loustal's jazz comic-strip Barney et la note bleue.”
Georges Tonlat-Briquet, magazine agenda n° 1167, 04/02/2009 - GEORGE TONLAT-BRIQUET, MAGAZINE AGENDA - 04/02/2009

"THOMAS CHAMPAGNE TRIO - CHARON'S BOAT"

J.-C. V., Le soir, supplément le Mad, 24/06/2009, chronique du disque - JCV - Le Soir supplément - LE MAD 24/06/2009

"THOMAS CHAMPAGNE TRIO - CHARON'S BOAT"

"THOMAS CHAMPAGNE TRIO - CHARON'S BOAT"

- Jazzques - Jacques Prouvost

Bio

With influences ranging from Dexter Gordon, to John Coltrane, Lee Konitz, Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter, the Thomas Champagne Trio has absorbed the jazz idioms form hard bop to modal jazz.
The absence of any chordal instrument in the band allows for a very open kind of jazz, giving much room and freedom to soloists.
